Prologue
“We love London, Daddy.” Catherine, Cat for short, perched in front of Big Ben’s enormous clock face. The magnificent skyline, including the London Eye, dominated their view. The dark water of the Thames meandered through the city below.
“This is so cool.” Connor, Cat’s twin, smiled.
“I love this age.” Penelope Manchester, the twins’ mother, leaned into her husband, Saint Michael the Archangel.
“I know. Five is a great age. We must enjoy every precious moment with our babies. Before we know it, they’ll be teenagers with an attitude.” Michael wrapped his white wings with gold tips around his wife and reincarnated soul mate.
“Daddy, isn’t this where Peter Pan departed from to take Michael, Jon and Wendy to Neverland?” Cat asked.
“You don’t believe such nonsense, do you? You just have Peter Pan on your mind because we saw his statue in Hyde Park today.” Penelope rolled her eyes.
“Where’s your belief?” Michael asked. “I’m an angel, you’re a powerful witch and our twins are witches with wings. But you don’t believe in Peter Pan?”
“But, I….”
“Come on kids, flap your wings. ‘Second star to the right, then straight on ’til morning,’” Michael said, excitedly.
“Yippee!” the twins sang in unison. Flapping their wings, they levitated away from Big Ben.
Penelope shot Michael a puzzled glare.
Extending his massive wings, he gestured for her to embrace him and assume her usual flying position.
Penelope clung to him tightly, and the magical family flew into the night.
* * * *
The morning sun’s first rays kissed their wings as they flew towards the rising sun in the east. Michael nodded to the twins, signaling them to descend.
Following his lead, the magical family flew towards the Earth’s surface.
Confusion filled Penelope as they hovered a few hundred feet above the surface. “Cinderella’s Castle?”
“Tokyo Disneyland.” Michael grinned ‘like a kid at….’
“Yippee! We’re going to Disneyland.” The twins fluttered down to Cinderella’s Castle and landed on the balcony of the highest turret.
“Oh, but I thought you wanted to go to Neverland,” Michael teased.
The twins whispered to one another, obviously consulting this magical dilemma.
Always speaking for her twin, Cat stepped forward and proclaimed, “Neverland first, then Tokyo Disneyland.”
Penelope gasped, “I remember now, from the Book of Legends.”
“Took you long enough,” Michael quipped.
“Mommy, Mommy, please tell us the story,” the twins begged.
Penelope explained, “Neverland is real. It was a magical island in the Pacific Ocean. But modern civilization wanted to build on it. My ancestors, who wanted to protect the island without revealing themselves, created a portal to another dimension. They moved Neverland through the portal, protecting it forever.”
“Do you remember the spell?” Michael asked.
Nodding, she said, “You just have to believe and add Fairy dust.”
Michael held a small vial containing indigo blue dust. “Indium works, too. When a Fairy dies, their magical form turns into crystalized Fairy dust. Scientists even thought it was a new element—indium.”
Penelope took the vial, threw the dust into the air, waved her hand, and believed in Neverland.
Dust spiraled in the air, creating an indigo blue cloud—a portal.
The magical family flew through the portal. Cinderella’s Castle and Tokyo Disneyland disappeared. They now hovered over a lush island. Mermaids lounged on the rocks near the shore, sunning themselves.
Beaming, Michael proclaimed, “Welcome to Neverland!”
Carbon Copy’s plot had me completely intrigued. I recommend this one for fans of fast-paced romantic suspense.
